WHAT YOU MUST DO ON YOUR FIRST DAY TO A NEW JOB

You have just successfully qualified for a job after a rigorous interview process and you have been called to officially report for commencement of the job. I believe you could be feeling some overwhelming exhilaration within you as you eagerly wait for that day that seems to crawl so slowly.

However, there are some factors that you need to take into account on your first day at work. The impression you are likely to display will show your colleagues and even your boss the kind of person you are.

Here are some of the things that  you should critically consider:

1.      Ensure you are time conscious on this day
Actually, it is your first day at workplace.  At this point I believe it is too early to come up with some mere excuses, for instance, on how you got caught up in traffic jam. Being late can actually cost you dearly!  Indeed, from the excitement, you can even barely sleep on the eve day! Thus, you got to ensure you are at the place earlier than expected.

2.      Show explicitly the interest to learn
Try to tackle the tasks allocated in the best way possible. Inquire from your supervisor on how you can efficiently deliver as required. This will even motivate them to feel more connected to you as you undergo the process of learning.

3.      Entangle yourself into the system as fast as possible
One problem that affects new employees is trying to adapt to the new system at the new workplace since they were previously in another, which was operating totally different. You are a new employee, right?
What is required of you is to learn the new system as soon as possible, since you cannot jump or prompt for adoption of your well known previous system. Actually, this is a new environment and you got to adapt!

4.      Show you can make a good teamwork
Apparently, if you are in solitude “doing your own things”, you will not create a good picture at all. One thing you need to understand is that any organization is like a system in which they need to work together to achieve a common goal. By engaging yourself with other colleagues for a tea break, exchanging ideas, getting to know each other, attending after-work meetings will boost your presence there.

5.      Ensure you have finished your first day’s assignment
Your boss will actually allocate you the task that he or she distinctively and perfectly understands you can work it out in a day. Try to minimize distractions that may inhibit you from accomplishing them. This could be a test on whether you can meet targets, deadlines and deliver as expected.

Once you critically adopt those simple tips, your first day will be one that is worth remembering. As you walk out the office after work, indeed you will feel some sense of achievement!
