Adam Small once said that
networking is the single most powerful tactic to accelerate success for any
individual or an organization in particular. Actually, when you are revolving
around the sphere of interconnected business or individuals, your chances of
getting job opportunities or business deals are very high.
Actually, according to a survey conducted
recently, networking and connections contribute about 70% of those who get job opportunities,
whereas job posted on websites amounts to about 20% and campus recruitment
contributes about 10%. From that survey you can distinctively and critically
envision the essence of networking.
How does one get connected? One
thing that I understand perfectly well is that there will always be a set of
the right people who have greatly achieved that will always be exposed to you.
What you only need is to grab the opportunity and get to know about them. You
can even ask for their business cards or their phone numbers and ensure that
you maintain the contact.
I remember that when we were back
in the campus, (which is still the same case today) there were quite a number
of influential and accomplished personalities who could come to give us
motivational talks. Some were outstanding professionals from different
chartered institutes, highly ranked politicians, prominent business people,
CEOs of big institutions among many others. This was the best time to get
acquainted to them, understand what motivates them, get their contacts and even
promise to pay them a visit or have a later personal conversation with them!
If you have a business or you are
working in an organization either as a manager, salesperson, or even as a
business partner, you will come to understand that the success of your business
or organization will be determine on how you maintain a cohesive and mutual
networking with your clients.
By building a strong relationship that instills
complete loyalty and trust that would be the stepping stone for your success.
This is also because networking may further trigger or induce referrals that
actually stimulate and improve the pace of your professional journey.
One amazing quote from George Ross that
captivates me clearly states that, “To be successful, you have to be able to
relate to people; they have to be satisfied with your personality to be able to
do business with you and to build a relationship with mutual trust.” Thus you
should know that networking is marketing yourself; your uniqueness in terms of
what you stand for!
